Molly Kresl

Molly Kresl, Clubs and Activities Coordinator, Clubs and Activities Office

What department do you work for, what do you do, and how long have you worked for HSU?

I work for the Clubs and Activities office in the Division of student affairs as the Coordinator for Clubs and Activities. I help facilitate leadership programming for student organizations, advise and support around 180 organizations, and assist in advising Greek life on campus. I have worked at Humboldt since July, 2014, so I have not hit a year yet, but the year has been speeding by!

Where are you from and what brought you to Humboldt?

I am from beautiful Milwaukee, Wisconsin right along Lake Michigan. I always liked to think that Lake Michigan was our mini freshwater ocean coordinator position at HSU was exactly what I was looking for. I loved the opportunity to advise student organizations while doing programming. When I flew out for the interview and they were giving me a tour of the area, I just kept taking photos. Obviously, I was smitten with the school and the area, so here I am!

Where did you work before coming to HSU?

Before HSU, I was working with Student Organization at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It was quite a move, but it was well worth it!

Tell us about your family

Most of my family is living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Everyone but my brother and his wife have already visited HSU and loved it! My partner, Rob, is still living in Florida finishing up some research. Hopefully he will be joining me out here in May. My dad and brother are both environmental guys, and work at a local garden center and landscape design company. I, unfortunately, did not get their aptitude for keeping plants alive.

What are you favorite TV shows?

I am a big fan of Netflix. I have recently gotten into The Bletchley Circle which is about a group of women who worked as decoders in WWII and decide to solve crime after the war. I also recommend one Canadian show called Bomb Girls which is about women during WWII working in a Bomb Factory. And, without a doubt, Dr. Who.

What is your favorite music/song?

I love Pearl Bailey, the Andrew Sisters, Billie Holliday, Ben Sollee, The Avett Brothers, Zoe Keating and Frank Turner. If I had to pick one song, it would probably be La Vie en Rose sung by basically anyone.

What is your favorite food/local restaurant you have found?

Los bagels Cucumbin is my new favorite food! I also love Bollywood Indian Cuisine in Eureka! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

What kinds of books do you like? Do you have a favorite author?

I have been really into audiobooks recently, although my bookshelf is stuffed with books too. One book I always recommend is Bossy Pants by Tine Fey. It is just so funny and so relatable.

What is your favorite place in Humboldt County?

I have to pick just one? For a location, I would pick anywhere in Trinidad. For an event, I love the First Sunday Flea markets at Redwood Acres. But I still have a lot of exploring left to do.

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be?

Anywhere and everywhere in Europe! I would especially like to go to Turkey, Croatia, and Italy. I would also love to explore Thailand.

What are your hobbies?

I love to create, Cook (but not clean up after), and exploring. There is nothing better than taking a day off to go someplace you have never been before. There is so much to discover even in a place where you think you know everything. Even something like discovering a new group of people.

Are you involved in any community groups/service projects?

Not at the moment but I am still looking. I would love any recommendations of things to get involved in.

What do you do when you aren't at work?

Everything else but work. I try to mix it up, but I am a big fan of creating things. Whether it is a new scarf or meal, I try to stay active when I am not at work because I sit so much during the day.
What is your favorite place to go on campus during your lunchtime?

I find an empty room in Nelson Hall and close the door. I also love walking around campus as long as I am wearing the right shoes. Sitting on the bleachers of the redwood bowl is always a breath of fresh air.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?

I collect tea pots, Tea Cups and love a good cup of tea anytime of the day. I attribute this passion to the tea parties as a child that transcended through adulthood. I think a good pot of the right tea can heal any ailment. When you are sick, ginger lemon tea with honey can make a world of difference.
