Cheyenne Hoffman

Cheyenne Hoffman, Graduate and Transfer Counselor

What department do you work for, what do you do, and how long have you been at HSU?

I work for the Office of the Registrar as a Graduation and Transfer Counselor. Currently, I am a part of the admissions team. As a member of the admissions team, I evaluate applications of lower division transfers, upper division transfers, and students who have attended HSU in the past and are returning to the university. I've been working with the Office of the Registrar for about 6 months now.

Where are you from and what brought you to Humboldt?

I grew up in the Bay Area my whole life then moved to Lake County halfway through high school. Some of my teachers in high school were either from this area or attended HSU themselves so I decided to check out the campus during Spring Preview. The beautiful area and the size of the university was very attractive to me which is why I decided to come to the area.

What kind of work did you do before your current position?

Before my current position I was a student assistant with a lot of programs on campus. I was a Peer Counselor with the Humboldt Orientation Program, RAMP Mentor with the Retention through Academic Mentoring Program, and a Peer Advisor with the Educational Opportunity Program.

What is your favorite food/local restaurant you have found?

My favorite local restaurant is Renata's Creperie. Not only is the food amazing but I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. Other than the food, my other favorite thing about this restaurant is that there is always new local artwork hanging on the walls.

What kinds of books do you like? Do you have a favorite author?

I love all books and I am the type of person that has to go to a local bookstore if I am in a new area. I tend to be drawn towards genres such classical literature, romance, psychology, and anything fiction. At the moment I do not have a favorite author but in the past I have really enjoyed books by Dean Koontz and John Green.

What is your favorite place in Humboldt County?

I have so many favorite places in Humboldt County but if I had to choose one it would have to be the ocean trail that is in Patrick Point. I love the ocean and the forest and that trail has a good mixture of both.

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere it would be Malta which is located off the coast of Italy. The reason is because one of my favorite artist, Caravaggio, painted one of his last paintings in a cathedral there and I would love to see it in person!

What are your hobbies?

My whole life I have been an artist so I'd say that most of my hobbies are art related. I like to do crafts and traditional art. Some of the things I really enjoy doing is painting, drawing, and wire wrapping.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?

I took boxing classes in high school!
